Record Rainfall.
A strong frontal system with subtropical origins hit the south coast with heavy rainfall on Tuesday. Abbotsford Airport officially received 45.5 mm of rain, breaking the previous record of 44.2 mm, set in 1978. Rainfall amounts tended to increase as you moved westward, with YVR recording a whopping 55.8 mm, for their wetttest day ever in August, and their wettest single day in over 5 years. This was somewhat unusual as YVR is normally one of the drier places in the Lower Mainland, but they happened to be in the direct path of the moisture. All of this rain brings our summer drought to a crashing end. The period from the middle of June up until yesterday was one of the driest on record, including the 3rd driest July on record with only 1.2 mm of rain. We will see a return to dry and sunny conditions by Thursday and Friday, with highs rebounding to the upper 20's.
